Highlights

Kind and genuine

Athletic and willing

Well started, with an excellent foundation

Introduction: Galaxy is a 6-year-old, approximately 15.3hh Stock Horse x Quarter Horse gelding with a kind nature, willing attitude and a real ‘look at me’ presence. He is a genuine, uncomplicated young horse who tries his heart out and gives everything asked of him. Galaxy presents as a lovely prospect for someone wanting a safe, trainable and versatile horse with plenty of upside.

Breeding and Type: Galaxy is an unregistered Stock Horse x Quarter Horse. He is a solid, athletic type with good bone and balance, making him well suited to a wide variety of disciplines.

Education and Training: Galaxy was broken in as a four-year-old by Anthony Desrsaux, where he also worked cows during his breaking process. After this, he was spelled for approximately two years before being brought back into work in September 2025 by a 14-year-old rider, who has ridden him consistently since.

Over the past six weeks, Galaxy has been in professional work and has shown significant improvement. He now picks up both leads correctly, maintains better balance without falling in on his shoulder, is developing a more consistent contact and remains calm, willing and trainable.

While still relatively green due to limited mileage, Galaxy has no dirt, no nasty habits and has proven to be a true gentleman throughout his education.

Disciplines and Experience: Galaxy is suitable for a range of disciplines, including:

  • Pony Club and Adult Riding Club

  • Campdrafting, team penning, reining and roping

  • Pleasure and trail riding

  • Low-level showjumping

He has experience with:

  • Cattle work and mustering

  • Low-level jump schooling over cavalettis and cross rails

  • Riding bareback

  • Trail riding

He is safe on the trail, happy to jump whatever is put in front of him, and is not bothered by dogs, farm machinery, motorbikes, livestock or general farm life.

Temperament and Rideability: Galaxy is described as kind, willing and pleasing. He has a soft mouth and is happy in a snaffle. He is tolerant of rider mistakes and generally calm and reliable under saddle, although not completely unflappable, as expected for a young horse still developing.

He may occasionally be looky in certain situations; however, this presents as stopping to look or quietly stepping away or doing a small prop on the spot rather than any explosive behaviour. He does not spin, shy or bolt.

Rider Suitability: Galaxy is best suited to an intermediate rider or above—someone who has been riding regularly for at least three years and has independent hands and a balanced seat. He would suit:

  • A junior rider under regular instruction

  • A young rider

  • An amateur adult rider

  • A mature or older rider

Due to his age and stage of education, Galaxy will benefit from continued professional guidance to further his development.

Handling and General Manners: Galaxy is straightforward and pleasant to handle. He is:

  • Easy to catch

  • Well mannered on the ground

  • Calm to lead and tie up

  • Easy to wash

  • Reliable for the farrier

Management: Galaxy has no known medical issues. He previously experienced some itch at his owner’s property, but this has not been an issue in his current management. His eyes can occasionally appear a little weepy, which is typical for horses during fly season. Vet checks are welcome at the buyer’s expense.

Galaxy is barefoot, a very good doer, and currently lives in a grassy paddock. He receives a small daily feed consisting of chaff and approximately 1kg of EasiResponse. Galaxy prefers to have a companion within sight but can be kept in his own paddock if required.

Reason for Sale: Galaxy is offered for sale as his rider no longer has sufficient time to continue his education due to school commitments.

Ideal Home: Galaxy would suit someone looking for a safe, genuine and versatile young horse to continue producing, whether for competition or pleasure riding. He will thrive in a knowledgeable home that enjoys bringing on a young horse correctly and appreciates a kind, willing temperament.
