Jack

16.2hh Clydesdale x qh 9yro gelding $10000 negotiable

For most of Jack’s life he has been a trail horse and husband horse. I got him two years ago and together we’ve been muddling through some basic dressage and a little bit of jumping plus lots of trails and clinics and lessons. I was coming back into riding after having a baby and he was the perfect horse for me. Unfortunately I have finally realised that I just don’t have the time to put into Jack and can’t afford to be paying for a horse I don’t use. It’s not fair on Jack either as he loves doing stuff and is stuck sitting in a small paddock day after day 😓

THE GOOD:

🐴 Jack has such a great attitude! He always meets me at the gate and loves to adventure.

🐴 He’s the perfect balance of ‘woah’ and ‘go’. He’s sensitive to the leg and happy to go forward, but can be brought to a halt just off the breath.

🐴 Almost exactly the same out as he is at home, can be ridden in a group or on his own.

🐴 currently his flatwork walk and trot are coming along nicely, with laterals coming along nicely (leg yield, shoulder in and haunches in all begun). Canter is coming along too, but has been hard to properly establish as my riding has been so inconsistent.

🐴 Happy/safe to trot/canter in open paddocks and on trails and always happy to stop, whether with horses or alone.

🐴 Has had a few jump rides at home and out and never stopped. He actually seems to really like jumping!

🐴 Not horse shy

🐴 Can be paddocked alone or with a herd. He is usually the boss horse.

🐴 Can be paddocked in electric fencing

🐴 Absolutely easiest keeper- lives off the smell of an oily rag 😂

🐴 barefoot, great to trim

🐴 easy to catch (catches you), rug, tack up, wash, mount and float (takes about 1-2min to load with gentle encouragement but I haven’t put much training into this but I think he’d self load with a bit of consistent training). And can be done unsedated for dentals.

THE WORKS IN PROGRESS:

🐴 Hates walking through water 😂 I have done a bit of training on this and he will do it but he needs more exposure

🐴 Can be a bit looky- I wouldn’t say spooky but he is a Clydey so can be a bit snorty. Gets his confidence from his rider.

🐴 Has pigrooted twice since I’ve had him, both times into the canter when he was unfit and I was rushing him. When I increase his fitness consistently and fairly he doesn’t do this.

🐴 Can struggle to get the right lead canter. When I was riding consistently under dressage instruction this was fine, but as soon as he’s unfit he tends to revert to just using the lead he’s strongest on.

This is a very sad sale because Jack is the best horse I’ve ever had! But I have him on Agistment and it’s expensive and he’s just sitting around all day in a small paddock 😓 so I’ve finally decided to find him someone who can give him the consistency he craves. He loves working, he loves interacting with people. He’s a favourite at the Agistment, everyone knows him because he asks for cuddles from everyone 😂 when he is in work and fit, he has a spring in his step and can’t wait to get to the arena. Selling in light work as I’m only managing 1-2 short rides a week but he has previously been in work 4-5 rides a weeks and was going gang busters!
