Introduction: A quality 5-year-old 16.2hh Thoroughbred by Star Turn, "Hilly" is a well-educated and competitive young horse across a range of disciplines. Combining talent and trainability, and an exceptional temperament, he has already achieved consistent wins and placings in showjumping to 1.00m, placed in Preliminary dressage, and has Evented to 80cm with top 10 places. Light and responsive in a snaffle across all phases, Hilly offers three quality paces, established lateral work, flying changes, and the kind of easy-going nature that makes him a pleasure to own and ride. He has shown plenty of ability to go further in any discipline.

Education, Skills and Experience: Having raced only once before retiring sound as too slow, Hilly has been professionally retrained and produced as a sport horse since early 2025. In a relatively short period, he has accumulated valuable competition experience and a proven record in the ring. His achievements include wins and placings to 1.05m showjumping level, a Thoroughbred Six Bar victory clearing 1.20m, and a successful campaign at Equimillions New Star 2025. He is consistently placing in Preliminary dressage and demonstrates established flatwork that includes lateral movements and flying changes. Hilly has Evented successfully to 80cm and schooled to one star, showing plenty of scope to make a star level horse. He is currently being used as a schoolmaster for a young rider.

General Demeanour Under Saddle: Hilly is a willing, genuine horse who is soft in the bridle and responsive without being sharp. He happily comes together on the flat and is forgiving of rider mistakes, making him an enjoyable and confidence-inspiring partner. Calm and reliable in his work, he has proven sensible in a variety of environments and situations. As a young horse, he will benefit from a confident rider to continue his education, but his trainable nature and straightforward attitude make him suitable for a wide range of riders. He is accustomed to farm life and remains relaxed around machinery, traffic, livestock, dogs, and general day-to-day activity.

Current Workload / Fitness: Hilly is currently in regular work and competition, being ridden five or more times per week. Despite this, he is not a horse that requires constant riding to remain manageable and reliable. He has demonstrated that he can return to work sensibly after a spell and is the type that can be safely hopped on without fuss.

Handling: A true gentleman on the ground, Hilly is easy to manage in every aspect of daily care. He is straightforward to catch, lead, tie up, wash, clip, and handle for routine procedures. He loads and travels well on a straight load float or truck and is well behaved for both the farrier and veterinarian. He lunges, can pony other horses, and is comfortable working around cattle and sheep. Traffic, trucks, tractors, motorbikes, and dogs do not concern him, reflecting his sensible and unflappable nature.

Feeding and Management: Hilly loves his food therefore is uncomplicated to feed and manage. He is currently maintained on hard feed twice daily with hay, together with a joint supplement and salt. His management is flexible, and he is equally content living in a herd, stabled part-time or full-time, or kept on his own.

Medical History: Hilly has typical Thoroughbred feet with low heels, which are easily managed with heartbars shoes on a regular cycle. Aside from this, he has no known past or present medical issues and remains sound and healthy. He is vaccinated for Tetanus and Strangles (January 2026), had his teeth attended to in December 2025 with no issues noted, and previous x-rays are available for serious buyers. Veterinary inspections are welcome at the purchaser's expense.

Rider Suitability: Hilly is best suited to a capable novice through to experienced rider working under regular instruction, looking for a quality young Thoroughbred with proven competition experience ready to go on with. He wuld be particularly well suited to juniors, young riders, and amateurs wanting a competitive horse for showjumping, dressage, riding club, interschool, or eventing.

Reason for Sale: Offered for sale only because his owner has several younger horses coming through and cannot keep them all. This is a genuine opportunity to purchase a talented, well-produced young Thoroughbred with a bright future in sport.
