Highlights

Super pretty, quality pony with genuine jump

Proven Pony Club allrounder, showjumper

Ideal for a confident child or small adult

Introduction: Luna is a lovely 10-year-old 12.2hh bay mare with a beautiful presence and sweet personality. Well bred by Iona Park Beethoven, Luna has been a reliable and much-loved Pony Club mount for the past three years. With her jumping ability, kind nature and versatility, she presents a wonderful opportunity for a confident child or small adult looking for a fun, capable allrounder.

Education, skills and experience: Luna has been ridden consistently by children, including a nervous novice rider, and has attended Pony Club rallies, camps, gymkhanas and eventing clinics. She has also spent time with Sue Walker for basic flatwork. She is responsive, though can be a little lazy at times, and benefits from confident, consistent riding.

Showjumping and cross country: Jumping is Luna’s standout discipline. She is currently graded D Grade Pony Club, jumping 70cm comfortably and training 75cm at home with ease. She is willing, genuine, point-and-shoot and has never stopped. She has also completed low-level cross-country schooling and enjoys having a job to do.

Dressage / Flatwork: Luna’s dressage level is Preliminary. She can take time to consistently maintain a frame and contact, but shows willingness and tries for her rider.

General demeanor under saddle: Luna is generally calm and reliable and adapts to the confidence level of her rider. She is quiet to ride around the paddock at home and happy to poke along. At lessons, Pony Club and clinics she is relaxed and cooperative. She can become keen when jumping but remains safe and rideable.

Vices or quirks: Luna does not buck, pigroot, bolt or rear. In busy, noisy environments with a nervous rider (large shows, loudspeakers, aerosol cans or spray hose nozzles), she can become tense but not silly or unsafe. Ear plugs and consistent preparation help her settle well.

Luna can be be tail swishy after a spell. She may call out to other horses but continues to get on with her job. She prefers to have a horse nearby is she is tied up at the float, at shows. She likes to pull faces when you do up the girth.

Behaviour in and out of work: Luna does not need regular riding to remain safe and reliable. She has been used as a back-up competition pony for the past two years — often taken out of the paddock and competed successfully when another horse was unavailable. This is a testament to her soundness and temperament.

Current workload / fitness: Currently in light work, ridden one to two times per week.

Handling and general behaviour: Luna is easy to catch, well mannered and safe to handle. She loads easily onto straight load, angle floats or trucks and travels quietly. She is good for the farrier and vet and tolerant of handler mistakes.

Feeding and management: Luna is a very good doer and her weight is monitored - like that of any pony. She is fed a mix of Rhodes, Teff and straw hay, with a small handful of wheaten chaff for supplements. Preventative ulcer management is recommended; omeprazole around competition times if competing at bigger shows.

Medical history: Luna was vet checked at purchase with no issues. She has never had a sick or lame day and does not have any issues that affect her - please see Owners Response Document for her full medical history. She is barefoot with excellent feet, trimmed every six weeks. Up to date with vaccinations (Strangles, Tetanus) and dental care (August 2025).

Tack and inclusions: Luna is light and happy in a snaffle bit. Luna will be sold with a full wardrobe of rugs and her false tail.

Rider Suitability:

Intermediate Rider defined as someone with at least three years of riding experience and a balanced, confident seat. Luna would suit:

  • A confident child under 14 for pony club, trails etc

  • A junior, young rider or small adult to enjoy and compete.

She does best with a confident rider who is happy to lead the partnership. With nervous riders, she can become tense or looky, though never unsafe.

Reason for sale: The children have moved on to bigger horses and Luna is now going to waste. While not a forced sale, the owners would love to see her giving someone else the same enjoyment.

Ideal home: A knowledgeable, horsey home with a rider who will appreciate Luna’s sweet nature.
