Introduction:

Cookie is a fantastic 14.2h, 9-year-old GRP x New Forest gelding, a genuine, pony for a child or small adult wanting a reliable and sensible schoolmaster.

Cookie has literally done it all competing in Dressage, Showjumping, Tetrathlon, Mounted Games, Ride To Time, and Horse Trials at State level all in the same year. He's also competed at National level for showjumping and tetrathlon as well as qualified for Working Show hunter for Interschools. He's Mr Versatile, and the pony club mount class at gymkhanas and shows is his jam. He can go from a show class, to a jump class, to a novelty class and back to a show class with no fuss.

Cookie is a true confidence builder and this type of pony is a very necessary 'step' on any rider's journey to becoming confident, capable and accomplished. He comes with current vetting and clean X-rays.

Education, skills and experience:

Cookie is well educated and has been produced across pony club/adult rider club activities with exposure to eventing, showjumping, working equitation and pleasure/trail riding. Cookie has been ridden bareback, happily carrying the family jack russell around too. He is unphased by busy roads, livestock and farm machinery.

He is very competitive at 70-80cm showjumping. Although Cookie is 'more whoa than go' with and happy to come back for the rider, he can get up and go when asked. He is great in jump-offs and whilst he's not fast he can do some amazing angles and inside lines.

General demeanour under saddle:

A calm, reliable type with more “whoa” than “go”, Cookie is tolerant of rider mistakes and adapts to the rider’s confidence level — happy to stroll along, and quick to switch the motor on when asked and off when the job is done. He is generally non-reactive, though (like any horse) he may have a 'look' if something major happens.

Current workload / fitness:

Cookie is in light work (ridden 1–2 times per week) and noted to remain consistent and reliable without needing a lot of regular riding. He is safe to hop straight on, after a spell.

Handling:

Cookie is exceptionally straightforward on the ground: easy to catch, lead, tie, clip, wash and shoe; self-loads and travels quietly; he stands well for the farrier and is good for the vet. Unflappable in day-to-day handling and simple to manage in a variety of setups (herd, individual paddock or stabled, including 24/7 busy environments).

Feeding and management:

Cookie is very easy to manage. Fed hay only (grass or lucerne) morning and evening with a small amount of green pick. No specific tack requirements. Currently shod but has previously been happy barefoot. Cookie loves competing and is settled at events, eating and drinking well regardless of where he is.

Medical history:

Cookie has no known medical issues. Current clean X-rays and a current vet check including flexion tests are available (within the last three months). Vaccinated for Tetanus and Strangles; last dental March 2026.

Rider Suitability:

An excellent option for a child or small adult seeking a confidence-giving partner for pony club/adult rider club, pleasure/trail and lower level competition across the disciplines listed. He is safe for beginners on the lead and for novices under instruction. He really is a super option for someone wanting a dependable and uncomplicated pony

Reason for sale:

Purchased for the owners’ son after the loss of his good pony; a more competitive pony then became available and they cannot keep both.
