Introduction: Obstructionist (Kiwi) is a 5-year-old gelding standing approximately 16.1hh and located in Logan Village, QLD. He is a quality young horse with basic education and is currently competing and developing his skills across multiple disciplines.
Education, Skills & Experience: Kiwi is showing promise in showjumping to 70cm, has been schooled over low-level cross country fences and is continuing to establish his dressage and flatwork foundation. He presents as an athletic, forward young horse with plenty of scope to continue progressing under the right guidance. He has had outings to adult rider club level and is in consistent work five or more times per week.
In addition to his outings, he has been lunged, ridden safely near cattle and sheep and has visited and swum at the beach. He is not concerned by children in his vicinity, busy roads, tractors, trucks, motorbikes, livestock or dogs.
Temperament & Rideability: Under saddle, Kiwi is forward and can be sharp. He can occasionally feel stubborn and may be heavy in the bridle; however, a correct half halt quickly lightens him in the contact. He is generally non-reactive unless something major occurs..
He does not require regular riding to remain safe and is reliable to hop straight on after a spell. He is currently in consistent work and continues to improve with structured training.
There are no vices or significant quirks to disclose.
Rider Suitability: Kiwi is best suited to a capable rider at a minimum. This is defined as someone who has been riding and competing regularly for at least five years, has independent hands and a balanced position and is confident in handling young or developing horses.
He would suit a young rider aged 18–24 or an amateur adult rider who is under regular professional instruction. Due to his age and stage of education, he requires a knowledgeable rider who can continue to develop his flatwork and overall rideability.
Handling & Ground Manners: Kiwi is easy to catch and well mannered on the ground. He ties up happily and calmly without fuss or pulling back. He loads very easily into a float or truck, stands quietly while travelling and unloads calmly.
He is easy to wash, reliable for the farrier and good for the vet. He is tolerant of handler mistakes and presents as straightforward to manage. He is currently shod.
Feeding & Management: He is fed hard feed and receives supplements as a preventative measure. His management is entirely flexible. He can be kept in a herd situation, in a paddock on his own or completely on his own without other horses on the property. He can be stabled 12 hours a day and paddocked 12 hours a day or happily stabled full time in a busy environment such as a competition stable.
Veterinary & Care: Kiwi is up to date with his tetanus and strangles vaccinations, last completed on 31/12/2025. He is maintained on a regular farrier schedule and is currently shod. A vet check can be conducted at the buyer’s expense.
Summary: Obstructionist is an athletic young gelding with a good foundation and a broad exposure base. He would suit a capable rider looking to produce a young horse through the grades in showjumping or eventing, with continued development on the flat.
With consistent professional guidance, he has the capacity to continue improving and become a competitive partner.
