Introduction: Regal Dove is a lovely sound and safe welsh x gelding with genuine eventing mileage. 'Charlie' is consistent and reliable with multiple results, he scores well on the flat and presents as a versatile, competitive package for a capable junior, young rider or amateur rider.
Education, skills and experience: Charlie has competed to EVA95 with proven results and previous Interschool Championship experience. He scores well in the dressage, with low-20s recorded, and is schooling 1.05 m at home. He has established laterals on the flat, is bold across country and has also placed in 95 cm Combined Training with previous junior riders/ owners. He is currently in full work and competing.
General demeanour under saddle: He is a bit lazy for the first five minutes then warms up to work, becoming willing and respectful of the aids. He will put in the effort asked of him. Charlie is best with a balanced rider; he can become nervous with mixed signals and may scoot forward for a stride. This has not progressed further and has not occurred for a many months.
Current workload / fitness: In work 5 times per week and currently competing. He does not need very regular riding to remain reliable.
Handling: Exceptionally easy on the ground — unflappable and straightforward to manage. Easy to catch, leads and ties calmly, self-loads and travels quietly (angle or straight), easy to wash, reliable for the farrier and vet, and tolerant of handler mistakes. Can be friendly, in an 'in your face' way.
Feeding and management: Charlie is shod. He can live happily in a herd or alone. He gets hot on too much grass or lucerne; feeding should be managed accordingly.
Medical history: No past or present medical issues stated. Vaccinated for Tetanus and Strangles. Owners will not share prior vet reports due to privacy but will share X-rays. A new pre-purchase vet check can be undertaken at the buyer’s expense.
Rider Suitability: Suits a confident, capable rider under regular professional instruction. Ideal for a junior or young rider stepping up, or an amateur wanting an established, competitive type who can handle some quirks. Not suited to beginners or unbalanced riders.
Reason for sale: Unfortunately, Charlie was sold to his current owners as a 'mother's dream horse' for an older, Grade 4/5 rider. This is not an accurate description of him and he has proved to be too much horse for his owner. He will, however, be amazing for a confident and balanced rider.
