Dressage riders at Sydney’s Centennial Park Equestrian Centre were very excited to be able to watch three of their own competing at the Sydney CDI last week – Mark Arthur, Michelle Baker and young rider Jessica Clark (also based with the Ryans near Newcastle). Unfortunately , Denise Rogan was also going to compete with her gorgeous Jazz mare Just One Wish but an incident at the last moment where Denise sustained a painful knee injury forced her to withdraw. ... Star Scotland based Kiwi eventer, Caroline Powell, has been given the green light to have her brilliant little grey horse, Lenamore, available for Olympic selection. For the second time this weekend Cassio Rivetti finished in first place as the last to go giving a great climax to the Trofeo Repsol. Rivetti already won the opening speed competition on Friday and today on Böckmanns Lazio he won with a time of 58.71. Michael Whitaker set the competition alight with a time of 59.82 on a new ride, MCB Maya and looked full of confidence as they led the way from the fourteenth to go. ... British and Ireland took centre stage at the Global Champions Tour Grand Prix of Spain seizing the top two podium places after a thrilling jump off. Ben Maher clinched victory on Tripple X III jumping a fast clear in 41.35 with Michael Whitaker in second place on Viking in 42.17 and Irish rider Denis Lynch came in third in a fast time of 40.91 despite clocking up four faults in the jump off. ... The bid for Olympic selection has heated up for Australia’s elite dressage riders with the first of the Nomination events getting underway overnight at the Mannheim CDI in Germany. Rain storms and cold weather didn’t dampen the mood among the Aussies who pulled out all stops to impress selectors who were onsite. Highest ranked Aussie of the day was Lyndal Oatley and Sandro Boy who recorded a score of 69.723%. Oatley was faced with the worst of the conditions, with the rain storm hitting just as she was due to enter the arena. With proceedings called to a halt, she retreated to the stables before coming back out and giving a strong performance. ...
