A New Career for Successful Racehorse Lamasery

Published on Wednesday, July 17, 2013 in Feature Horses

Recently retired Thoroughbred racehorse, Lamasery, is looking forward to a new career and starting the next chapter in his life!

Lamasery (Commands x Verse) had 24 starts for 11 wins during his impressive racing career.

Purchased from Darley as a three year old, Lamasery was given some time in the paddock to mature before being campaigned. When David Vandyke set up stables at Warwick Farm, Lamasery was given to him to try and get some BOBs bonuses at the country meetings. He then went on to have notable racing success, highlights of which were winning four Metropolitan races in a row, back to back Group Threes, a Listed race on Melbourne Cup day at Flemington and the Group Two Hills Stakes. In 2011 he chalked up seven Metropolitan wins.

During all of this he was diagnosed with arthritis and raced unknowingly with a fractured pelvis. He is one tough little horse and always left everything on the track.

While seven year old Lamasery was being prepared for the 2013 Brisbane carnival, the difficult decision to retire him was made.

After a well earned rest in the paddock Lamasery is now at Centennial Parklands Equestrian Centre in Sydney, ready to start his new life.

Lamasery will be given a month or so on the flat and then tried over jumps. If he shows jumping talent he will be aimed at eventing and if not, his future will lie in the hack ring.

Stay tuned for more on how Lamasery's life after racing progresses!
