ESMA Week has Come to an End, and What a Ride It’s Been!

Published on Saturday, March 10, 2012 in General

The winners of the 2012 PagePlay Equestrian Social Media Awards (ESMAs) were announced in five episodes uploaded to YouTube during ESMA Week (5-9 March).

The ESMAs were set up in 2010 to reward equestrians across the globe for enriching the online world for horse lovers everywhere. Now in their second year, the ESMAs have been going from strength to strength with voters in the 2012 awards from over 120 countries.

All finalists were asked to film an acceptance speech video for inclusion in the online award ceremony. Liam Killen, Director of the ESMAs said: “The finalists’ acceptance speeches bring the ESMAs to life. We received some outstanding videos from across the globe!” Videos were provided by some well-known names in the industry such as Mark Todd, William Fox Pitt and Anky Van Grunsven.

Winners of 30 categories were announced, including best: use of social media by a professional rider; event/competition; best equestrian social network; and blog to name a few. One category was for best use of social media by a celebrity, won by British glamour model, business woman and keen equestrian, Katie Price. The judges scored based on celebritys’ promotion of equestrianism to a wider audience through social media.

There were also ten regional categories such as: North America, North-east Europe, North-west Europe etc. The winners of the ten regions automatically went through to be judged by the FEI’s Director of Corporate Communications, Richard Johnson for the World Award, which was won by Equestrian Lifestyle Magazine (Mexico), the winner of Central America.
