Quality Performances and Great Horses at Warwick Rodeo and Campdraft
The dust didn't have long to settle after the end of the legendary Warwick Rodeo and Campdraft last Sunday, before a huge storm swept through, complete with torrential rain and hail, which sent everyone scurrying for cover.
Luckily nature's fury held off long enough to see the 2011 Warwick Rodeo and Campdraft run and won, with plenty of qualilty performances, thrills and spills, joys and sorrows witnessed throughout the week.
The crowd, as is usual for this famous event, was huge over the weekend and relatively well behaved. On the weather front, it was mostly good except for some rain, not counting the tempest on Sunday, of course!
It was great to see the 2011 Warwick Rodeo Queen, Tammie Conroy, riding Appaloosa gelding, Dynamic For Sure (aka Ben), in the street parade, grand entry and leading out finalists and winners. Great job Tammie and Ben!
As for the winners and grinners, Tom Williamson riding Serene Acres was victorious in the prestigious Black Toyota Warwick Gold Cup Campdraft, while Pete Comiskey and Marnies Destiny took out the stallion draft and Kimberley Sammon on Noble Miss chalked one up for the ladies by winning the Supafloats Canning Downs draft. The Newcombe's Charbrays Champion of Champions draft was won by Mark Buttsworth riding Docs Recoil, while Toni O'Neill, riding Roma, was the winner of the CG Welding Ladies Silver Cup campdraft. Toni also placed equal second in the ladies draft on Jackpot.
Congratulations to all the winners and placegetters! Winning these events is certainly a huge achievement. With well over 600 entries in the Black Toyota Warwick Gold Cup and Supafloats Canning Downs draft, campdrafting is certainly one of the most popular horse sports in Australia and looks to be growing!
