Safety upgrades for horse riders in Centennial Park

This week had a great announcement to make – thanks to a $25,000 grant from the NSW Department of Sport and Recreation – we will be improving equestrian and visitor safety in Centennial Park!

The grant funds, secured through the Centennial Parklands Foundation, will go towards the creation of a new sand track at the Equestrian Grounds in Centennial Park.

The new purpose-built track, a concept initially raised by equestrian users themselves in the the park, will be used by riders undertaking the faster elements of a sport horse’s fitness, conditioning and training regime.

The surface will provide a sound footing for the horses and help them remain injury free.

The track should also improve general visitor safety by removing faster moving horses off the Grand Drive horse track (which is considered unsuitable footing for horses to canter on).

We also hope the new track will encourage greater participation in equestrian sports in the Parklands who would otherwise have to travel more than 45 minutes to access similar facilities.

The $25,000 grant was provided by the Sport and Recreation Participation and Facility Grants Program, which delivers millions of dollars to hundreds of local sporting organisations to build sporting facilities and boost sports participation in their communities.
