Seven People Monitored for Exposure to Hendra Virus After Horse Dies on Gold Coast
Published on Sunday, July 7, 2013 in Health
Seven people are being monitored after another outbreak of the deadly hendra virus in Queensland.
An unvaccinated horse died from the virus in the Gold Coast hinterland on Friday.
There are no other horses on the property, which has now been quarantined.
Queensland Health says seven people are being assessed for exposure to the horse.
It is the fourth case of hendra virus in Queensland this year.
Queensland's chief veterinary officer says it is not related to the death of another horse in the Brisbane Valley late last month.
Another horse has died from hendra virus at Macksville on the New South Wales north coast.
