Top Jumpers Venture to Vienna for 11th Round of the GCT

Published on Friday, September 21, 2012 in General

Competition is heating up at the serious end of this year’s Global Champions Tour season.

The 11th and penultimate round of the series sees the world’s best horse and rider combinations in Austria where competition is taking place in front of Vienna’s magnificent City Hall.

Just five points separate overall series leader Edwina-Tops Alexander and second placed Rolf-Goran Bengtsson of Sweden and if last weekend’s result in Lausanne is anything to go by, competition between the two will be fierce again this weekend.

At Lausanne it was the Swede who finished in front, taking second position on the podium just one place ahead of Edwina. The Australian will be using the Vienna Grand Prix to solidify her lead ahead of the series final in Abu Dhabi in November.

“There are two competitions left so there is still a long way to go. The season is more exciting than last year and I’m really happy I’ve been in the lead since the beginning,” Edwina said following her third place podium finish in Lausanne.

A thrilling weekend of top-level equestrian sport is ensured with 14 of the world’s top 15 ranked riders making the trip to the historic European capital city.  Among the top 15 are Rolf-Göran Bengtsson, Nick Skelton, Steve Guerdat, Christian Ahlmann, Marcus Ehning, Ludger Beerbaum, and Gerco Schröder.

The setting in Vienna could not be more stunning with the compact sand arena surrounded by some of the most impressive architecture in Europe

Eurosport will broadcast the Grand Prix class on Channel 511 on Foxtel at 11am AEST on Sunday 23 September with repeats to follow throughout the week.
