Introduction: Ablue Moons TNT, affectionately known as “Freddy,” is a 14-year-old chestnut gelding standing approximately 13.3–14hh. Registered EA, WPCS and AHSA, Freddy is an Arabian Pony x Welsh by Ablue Moon Rising out of Peaches N Cream.
Freddy was originally purchased, in 2024, for a very nervous 13-year-old rider and comes from an extensive showing and competition background. Unfortunately, his rider has lost interest and his talent is now being under-utilised. He is ready to find a loving, experienced home where he can continue to shine.
Education, Skills & Experience: Freddy is well educated and has competed successfully across multiple disciplines. He has a strong background in showing, dressage and Pony Club, and has attended numerous competitions, training days and lessons.
He is currently training Elementary dressage and has competed Novice. Most recently, he was selected as a loan pony for the NZ Youth Dressage Team at the Australian Youth Dressage Championships in Wagga, where he was impeccably behaved and produced beautiful tests.
Freddy has competed and won or placed at State level, including being an East Coast Arabian Championship Winner and winning Sydney Royal Pony Club Pairs in 2024 with his previous owners.
He is safe for beginners on the lead and safe for confident novices under instruction in an experienced family environment. He is not concerned by children in his vicinity, dogs or other pets.
Temperament & Rideability: Freddy is a kind, safe and reliable pony with no dirt. He is willing and responsive under saddle, willingly collects and is generally calm and reliable, though not completely unflappable.
Like many smart ponies, will occasionally ‘test’ his rider. On occasion, particularly if he has had a break from work, he may kick up slightly in a canter transition or be a bit lazy. These behaviours diminish significantly with consistent work once or twice per week. He does not require daily riding to remain safe and reliable, but regular work helps smooth out the typical clever pony quirks.
Freddy is light and happy in a snaffle bit and is currently fitted in a Prestige dressage saddle.
Rider Suitability: Freddy can occasionally test the rider and can react to rider nerves by being tense. As such, he is best suited to a rider who is confident and consistent - a novice rider in an experienced home or a confident Intermediate rider at a minimum. This is defined as someone who has been riding and competing regularly for at least three years, has independent hands and a balanced position and is confident if the horse is reasonably well behaved.
He is ideally suited as a second or third pony for a confident child or teen, or for a small adult rider looking for a safe and educated mount.
Handling & Ground Manners: Freddy has excellent ground manners. He is easy to catch, leads calmly and willingly, ties up happily and loads easily onto a float or truck. He stands quietly when travelling and unloads calmly. He is reliable for the farrier and good for the vet. He is tolerant of handler mistakes and is straightforward to rug, worm and prepare.
Freddy is dominant at feed time and must be separated when fed and then fed either over a fence or by an experienced handler who can manage his behaviour appropriately.
Feeding & Management: Freddy is fed soaked lucerne in the morning and has access to teff hay throughout the day. He receives a small hard feed of lucerne and sunflower seed at night, along with Mag E and Cell Vital supplements.
He has no medical issues, injuries or prescription medication requirements. He does have a facial scar from when he was a foal, which is cosmetic only. There is no history of laminitis or metabolic issues. His vaccinations, dental and farrier work are all up to date.
Summary: Freddy is a safe, talented and beautifully educated pony who has proven himself at State level and in high-profile competitions. He combines reliability with just enough character to develop a rider’s skills.
This is a difficult sale of a much-loved pony whose talent deserves to be utilised. He is seeking an experienced, consistent home where he will be appreciated and given the opportunity to continue competing and enjoying life.
He is offered for sale to long-term, knowledgeable homes only.
