Introduction: Smartie is a compact, athletic 7-year-old Stock Horse x Quarter Horse gelding with exceptional cattle breeding and genuine working potential. By the legendary Acres Destiny and out of a Smart Little Lena-bred mare, Smartie offers the bloodlines sought after for campdrafting, team penning and station work. He has been professionally started and is now ready for a knowledgeable, experienced rider to continue his education.
Education, skills and experience: Smartie was sent to Tenandra Training Stables (Nathan Burtenshaw, Coonamble) in October 2025, where he completed a 12-week breaking program. He has since progressed to flag work and has been used as a turn-back horse. He has also completed mustering and feedlot-style work. As a green broken horse, he requires further miles, exposure and professional development.
Cattle Work / Performance Potential: Smartie has a natural instinct for cattle and comes from a highly proven family. His full brother, Maces Smart Little Destiny C1-261640, has recorded significant campdrafting success. His dam line has produced multiple successful cattle horses, and his sire, Acres Destiny, is widely regarded as a campdrafting legend. With correct, consistent training, Smartie has the genetic foundation to excel in cattle disciplines.
General demeanor under saddle: Smartie is forward, responsive and soft in the bridle. He willingly collects and shows promise in his way of going. However, he does have quirks that require an experienced rider.
Vices or quirks: Smartie can buck. The trainer does not believe this is pain related and feels it is behavioural, likely due to being started later. Lunging and ground work - before riding - does minimise this behaviour. Like most horses, as progresses through his education, this is expected to improve or disappear. However, Smartie must be ridden regularly and managed by someone with the confidence and experience to ride him through this.
Current workload/ fitness: Smartie is currently in full work, ridden five or more times per week. He requires regular work (four or more times weekly) and lunging prior to riding each day to remain settled and manageable.
Handling and general behaviour: On the ground, Smartie is well mannered and easy to handle. He is easy to catch, leads calmly, ties up happily, self-loads, travels quietly, clips easily, washes well and is reliable for the farrier.
Feeding and management: Smartie is currently fed hay only to help manage his energy levels. His management is flexible — he can be kept in a herd, on his own, stabled full-time or on a stable/paddock rotation.
Medical history: Smartie has no medical issues. He is shod and is up to date with dental work (December 2025). Vet checks are welcome at the buyer’s expense.
Tack and gear: Smartie is light and happy in a snaffle bit.
Rider Suitability: Experienced Rider only, defined as someone with a lifetime of experience producing and riding green or challenging horses, confident riding through behavioural moments. Smartie is not suitable for beginners, novices or nervous riders.
Reason for sale: Offered for sale as the owners do not have the capacity to continue his training and development.
Ideal home: An experienced, professional or working home where Smartie will continue his education and be utilised in cattle sports or mustering/feedlot work
