Introduction:
Ballahowe Alendro/ Ecky is a fabulous bay Warmblood gelding by Allesendro out of Northern Fortune.. He is a beautifully educated schoolmaster with quality, presence and versatility, making him an appealing option for a rider wanting a safe, well-schooled horse.

Education, skills and experience:

Ecky was purpose-bred and broken in by Yona Lloyd. He competed successfully in dressage with Nina Lloyd for the majority of his career at Novice/Elem level, with a short stint of eventing in the 6yo young horse event with Yona Lloyd. 

Ecky is the full brother of the Lloyd’s 5* horse Ballahowe Ayurvedic. After many years of dressage with Nina Lloyd, including many wins and placings, in 2017 Ecky, at 12, returned to jumping, moving up the grades easily, schooling 2*, competing 1*, and showjumping up to 130cm in training whilst being on squad.

Ecky is a schoolmaster with experience across dressage, showing, eventing, showjumping and pony club or adult rider club activities. He has competed successfully with comprehensive results available in his portfolio. In addition to his main disciplines, he has experience trail riding, low-level jump schooling, low-level cross country schooling and lunging. He is also accustomed to farm life and is not concerned by tractors, trucks, motorbikes, livestock, dogs or other pets.

General demeanour under saddle:
Under saddle, Ecky is willing, responsive and nicely educated. He willingly collects, feels soft and light in the bridle and is tolerant of rider mistakes. He is ridden in a bridle with poll pressure relief and is ridden in a Bomber ported snaffle for all phases. He is generally very calm and reliable, although not completely unflappable. He has no vices or quirks under saddle. 

Handling:
Ecky is well mannered on the ground and generally straightforward to handle. He leads calmly, ties up happily, self-loads or loads very easily, travels quietly and unloads calmly. He is easy to wash, reliable for the farrier and good for the vet. Like many horses, at times he requires ‘encouragement’ aka bribery to be caught. Due to his size, does require a capable handler.

Behaviour:
Ecky is reliable both in and out of work and does not need regular riding to remain safe and sensible. He presents as a calm, educated and dependable horse who has been well exposed to a variety of environments.

Current workload:

Ecky is currently in work and being ridden three or more times each week. He is not currently competing due to his rider’s lack of time. He does not require constant riding to remain reliable and safe.

Feeding and management:
Ecky is a good doer and is currently fed grass hay and pellets. He can be kept in a herd situation or in a paddock on his own, provided he has a companion in sight. His management is straightforward and practical.

Medical history:
Ecky has no past or present medical issues. He was last vaccinated in September 2025 for tetanus and strangles, had his dental done in February 2026 and is currently barefoot. A vet check is welcome at the buyer’s expense. 

Rider Suitability:
Ecky is best suited to a capable rider and would suit a tall junior rider, young rider or amateur adult, under regular professional instruction. His size, education and big engine mean he needs a rider and home capable of managing a bigger horse. He would particularly suit someone wanting a very nice horse who is well schooled on the flat but also wants to event or jump, as he enjoys variety and can become bored with straight dressage.

Reason for sale:
Ecky is offered for sale due to a genuine and very sad change in circumstances, with his owner now married, working full time and time poor. His ideal home is one where his quality, education and versatility will be appreciated, and where he can continue to enjoy a varied life with a capable rider.
