Happily lived at NEGS during term time for the last 2 years
Safe, sane, sound and talented
Whiskey is an accomplished gelding who is established in the show ring, dressage, showjumping and Combined Training. He has been ridden by his current rider for the last three years and has happily lived at NEGS during term time, while she has been at boarding school. Whiskey is uncomplicated, safe, has delightful manners and a willing work ethic. He presents a wonderful opportunity for someone to purchase a safe, established performance galloway!
Education and experience: Whiskey is the ultimate allrounder - with consistent results, rideability and the temperament to excel with his next rider. He consistently scores over 65% in preliminary dressage. Whiskey is soft and light in the bridle, willingly collects and has wonderful movement. He also has the looks, conformation and presence of a fabulous show pony!
Whiskey loves jumping and he is always honest. He is brave and tolerant of an occasional miss, when jumped by a confident rider. Whiskey has experience jumping up to 90cm.
Whiskey has attended pony club, placed at state interschools and he has been ridden bareback! He is relaxed on trail rides and is the same at home, as he is at competitions.
General demeanour under saddle: Whiskey is a responsive and willing performance pony. He is ridden in a snaffle in both phases and is light and easy to collect. Whiskey is tolerant of rider mistakes, kind and straightforward to ride.
Current workload/ fitness: Whiskey is in work 4 times a week. He does not need to be ridden regularly to be safe and his behaviour is not affected by a spell.
Handling: Whiskey is very well mannered on the ground. He is easy to catch, lead and handle - for farrier, picking out feet, grooming, clipping and washing. Whiskey loads into float and truck willingly, stands quietly when travelling and unloads calmly. He is easy and calm to clip.
Behaviour: Whiskey is 100% safe - he does not buck, pigroot, bolt or rear. He is very safe and reliable. Whiskey is not concerned by dogs or other pets. He is non-reactive unless something major happens but he is still safe even in that situation, he moves on calmly and straight away.
Feeding and management: Whiskey’s management is entirely flexible but his weight does need to be monitored to ensure he is not being overfed.
Medical history: Whiskey is 100% sound and without issues, his owner welcomes any vet check, xrays, scans and blood tests.
Rider Suitability: Whiskey has been owned by the same family for the last three years. He was educated by the older sister since she was 16 and then passed down to her 14 year old sister. He is willing, responsive and forward. He is straightforward enough to be ridden by confident and balanced novice riders, with a knowledgeable support system.
Ideal home: would be a junior rider or a small adult, who wants to enjoy and love a straightforward and well educated galloway. He is fabulous at dressage but likes a variety of work. We are looking for a home that can provide this - at least some lower level jumping or pole work and trail riding to mix things up. Whiskey is a delight and deserves to be spoiled and loved!
Reason for sale: Whiskey’s rider has outgrown him in terms of ability and is ready to move up the levels. He is very reluctantly for sale because she knows that he has so much to give and teach his next rider.
