Introduction:

If you are looking for a brave, genuine compact athlete who loves his job and has the record to show it, Hey Duggee is a very appealing option. Doug, is a 9yo, 15.3hh Thoroughbred gelding, who has successfully competed in eventing and showjumping and is currently competing and placing at EVA80 and 90cm SJ level.

Doug is a neat, careful and honest horse for a capable rider wanting a genuine partner to enjoy and keep developing. With his brave cross-country attitude, established flatwork and current competition form, he offers a lovely opportunity for the right rider to get out, have fun and be competitive.

Education, skills and experience:

Doug has competed in eventing and straight showjumping with placings up to EvA80 and 90cm SJ. He is a naturally brave horse in both the cross-country and showjumping , and has never finished an event with a jumping penalty. On the flat, Doug can produce a neat, tidy test and is ridden in a rubber bit in all three phases.

Doug’s record speaks to his honesty over fences, particularly cross-country, where he gives his rider a genuine feeling of wanting to get to the other side.

He is not worried by busy roads, farm machinery, livestock or dogs.

General demeanour under saddle:

Doug is light in the hand, willing without being overly forward and puts in as much effort as the rider asks. He can be noise-sensitive and a little hot in warm-up rings - while remaining safe at all times - and this is usually managed with sound-proof bonnet. He does not have any other vices or quirks under saddle.

Doug is not a first-horse type or a kick-along schoolmaster, but he is a genuine, honest and capable horse for a rider who enjoys a forward Thoroughbred, appreciates an athletic feel and is confident enough to support him in busier environments.

Current workload / fitness:

Doug is in work, ridden three or more times per week, and is currently competing. He does not need daily riding to remain reliable and sensible.

Handling:

On the ground, Doug is easy to catch, ties up happily, self-loads and travels quietly, and unloads calmly. He is good to wash, tolerant of handler mistakes, reliable for the farrier and good for the vet. Clipping history is unknown. Like many horses, he can be “matey” and call out - if travelling with a companion and getting left alone at the truck. He is safe and reliable to lunge.

Feeding and management:

Doug is on hard feed with chaff, plus hay, and is on grass. He can be paddocked with another horse or with a companion in sight.

Medical history:

Doug does not have any medical issues that affect performance. He is vaccinated for Tetanus, Strangles and Hendra, and is up to date with dental. Vet checks are welcome at the buyer’s expense.

Rider Suitability:

Doug is best suited to a confident, capable rider under regular professional instruction who enjoys a willing and athletic horse that wants to do the right thing.

Reason for sale:

Owner lacks time with two horses and a full-time job
