Maverick
15.2hh, 7yo, chestnut, thoroughbred, gelding unraced.
Solid, chunky kid, often mistaken for a Quarter Horse!
If temperament is of high importance to you then let me introduce you to Maverick. He is the sweetest, kindest, most respectful kid. You can't walk past him without stopping to give him a pat and cuddle. Be prepared to melt into his brown eyes and soft kisses.
He patiently stands tied, happy to pick up all feet, stands quietly to be washed (does appreciate warm baths) groomed, clipped, saddled. His ground work is soft, yields well. Happy to be stabled, yarded or paddocked. Currently paddocked but I have stabled him with no problems, I think he quiet enjoyed coming it at night
Under saddle Maverick is quiet. Not a beginners mount yet but still quiet. Works with a light contact and moves nicely off your leg but not over reactive to leg pressure. He has started lateral work at the trot, nice leg yields, happily moves his shoulders. Canter still needs work to become more balanced but picks up both canter leads. Happy to long rein walk after canter. Maverick is a comfortable ride, cute sit trot and canter is easy to sit to and is improving.
Previous owner was a showjumper so he has showjumped and done some cross country clinics. I have not jumped him - I am not a brave rider. I do not know the height but I have video of him jumping.
Maverick floats well on straight load or angle floats. Happily stands tied to the float with a hay bag to munch on. He is good to take to new environments but will be more forward under saddle in the beginning. He does settle but with more outings he will become a pro given his lovely nature.
He is currently barefoot and copes well. If I was to have him in full work or trail ride on rough terrain I would advise shoes or scoot boots.
Up to date with all vaccinations, dental, farrier (every 4 weeks), body work every 4 weeks (all my ridden horses have work this often) easy to worm, needle etc.
Maverick would suit a kind rider who would like to do a bit of everything. He is not going to the Olympics as he has average movement but will be a great amateurs, experienced teenagers horse.
This sale is regretful and very hard. A lot of tears will be shed. Maverick has done absolutely nothing wrong, due to my new work commitments I do not have to time to keep 2 horses in full work and being 7 years old I think he should be out having fun not wasting in a paddock.
Please he is not suitable for a child coming off lead rein or a child who had lessons in a riding school once a week for a year. Maverick deserves at least an intermediate rider who is balanced in their seat, soft with their hands.
