Oakfield Sunrise, affectionately known as ‘Oakey’, was trained and ridden by Carl Spry in Darwin, before hanging up her racing shoes in 2017. However, her retirement didn’t slow her down! Oakey has been shining in her new career ever since!
Rehomed in 2019, Oakey flourished under her new owner’s care, developing confidence and skills that led the pair to regularly compete in dressage. Their hard work was recognized with the TRNT Off The Track Aftercare Award—a testament to the incredible bond they formed.
In 2023, Oakey began a new chapter and has since been excelling in eventing and showjumping competitions across NSW - achieving fantastic results - which shows Oakey’s continued growth and talent across disciplines.
Oakey is an absolute dream to ride, handle and compete! She is so well educated and reliable that she would suit any rider from a confident novice and above AND every rider will fall in love with her! This sale presents a fabulous opportunity for someone to purchase a very well educated mare who is willing, kind and absolutely loves people!
Education, riding and experience: Oakey is competing and placing at 125cm showjumping. She is competitive, quick and rideable around the course. Oakey is brave and bold, so she can get a little strong, but she gives the rider amazing confidence - as they know Oakey will always leave the ground. She doesn’t stop and is not concerned by fill.
Oakey is eventing at 2* level and is established to 1* level. She is very capable in the jumping phases but doesn’t ‘love’ dressage. That said, Oakey has experience competing at elementary level dressage and can produce a lovely dressage test. She has automatic flying changes and lateral work established. This makes her rideable, adjustable and competitive on the showjumping course!
Oakey is a dream to take out, show, attend riding club, trail ride and ride around the farm. She is always safe with absolutely no dirt. Oakey is currently in work and competing.
Handling: Oakey is patient and well mannered on the ground to rug, wash, shoe etc. She is great for the farrier and to clip. Oakey is very easy to load, travel and unload - in either a float or truck. She loves cuddles and affection.
Behaviour: Oakey is happy in big city show environments. She travels well - loads and unloads without fuss and eats and drinks well when away from home. Oakey is a wonderful horse to have at competitions with younger or nervous horses as she is a calming influence.
Oakey is sensible and reliable to ride and handle. She loves beach rides, trail rides and barback rides in a halter. She does not have any vices under-saddle or on the ground.
Feeding and management: Oakey is fed a simple diet - hay - and when in work, a small AM and PM feed of Mitavite Economix. She is currently paddocked full time. At home, Oakey is happy to be stabled at competitions and is happy in a herd environment or on her own with a horse in sight.
Medical history: Oakey does not have any past or current medical issues. Her owner welcomes any vet check.
Rider Suitability: Oakey would suit - and be an asset to - any rider from a ‘confident novice under instruction’ through to a competitive and capable rider.
The type of rider/ home that we are looking for is with someone who:
wants a well educated and safe horse to showjump, care for, love and enjoy
will give her lots of affection
is going to give her a long term home
Oakey is a competent eventer but, due to not loving dressage, her owner would prefer a home where eventing or dressage is a ‘secondary’ activity - not the main focus.
Reason for sale: Oakey is very sadly for sale as her rider has too many horses.
