Ponsford, known as Remi, is a striking 15.3hh black 6yo Thoroughbred gelding with a compact, attractive frame and a useful foundational education for a rider wanting a project to continue producing. Retired from racing in November 2024 and in training since January 2026, Remi presents as an affordable, well-started option for a capable rider looking for a multi-discipline horse with the basics already established.

Remi is not a finished schoolmaster, but he has had a solid start to his ridden career after racing and offers the type, movement and early education to keep building from in the right hands.

Education, skills and experience:

Remi has competed at 60–70cm and is schooling to 90cm. He currently benefits from a confident ride to the fences as he gains experience. On the flat, he has established leg-yield and shoulder-in, can counter-canter and perform canter leg-yield, and has good brakes. His contact is still developing and not yet fully consistent.

He has completed low-level cross-country schooling and has been out competing. His current education gives his next rider a useful foundation to build on, with further consistency, exposure and mileage needed.

General demeanour under saddle:

At home, Remi is generally more “woah than go” and is described as calm and reliable. Due to his age, education and stage of retraining, Remi can be a bit looky and can be cheeky under saddle if excited or at competitions. However, this is not dirty or unsafe. Please see Owner’s Response Certificate for more information.

Current workload / fitness:

Remi is currently in work five or more times per week and is competing.

Handling:

For a confident and capable handler, Remi is easy to catch, leads and ties calmly, is straightforward to wash, and self-loads and travels quietly. He is good for the vet. He can be nippy or pushy in an “in your face” friendly way and this is straightforward to manage. He has not been clipped.

Feeding and management:

Remi is currently hard fed once daily, with hay as needed, and is shod. He needs to be paddocked on his own and can also be managed on a 12/12 stable-paddock routine. Remi is accustomed to busy environments and general farm life, including dogs, livestock, tractors, trucks, motorbikes, busy roads and fireworks.

Medical history:

The owner reports no past or present medical issues. Remi is vaccinated for Tetanus and had his last dental in July. Vet checks are welcome at the buyer’s expense.

Rider Suitability:

Remi is best suited to a confident, capable rider under regular professional instruction who is comfortable with a horse that can be cheeky and needs clear, consistent riding. He is not suitable for a beginner, nervous rider or inexperienced home.

He would suit a junior, young rider or amateur adult who enjoys producing horses, is happy to continue his education at home, and understands that he may become excited or expressive in certain situations. In the right hands, Remi offers an affordable, attractive and well-started Thoroughbred project with scope to continue developing.

Reason for sale:

Remi is offered for sale, on behalf, as his owner has decided he is not the right long-term horse for her.
