Introduction:

SJF Cassowary is a rising 4yo, 16.1hh Warmblood gelding by Cassiago out of a Balou du Rouet mare, presenting as a wonderful young prospect for showjumping or eventing. With a fabulous temperament, good conformation, elastic movement and an excellent foundation, SJF Cassowary is ready to step into a capable home and begin the next stage of his education.

Education, skills and experience:

SJF Cassowary has been started under saddle and has completed three preparations with Jack Heydan, most recently in August 2026. Due to his age, he has not competed to date and has only been ridden by a professional. He is now ready to commence training toward his chosen discipline.

General demeanour under saddle:

Reported by the breaker as being quiet, sensible, willing and responsive, SJF Cassowary is an intelligent and talented horse who is keen to learn. He is a straightforward young horse for a competent rider or professional program to continue producing and start his competition career.

Current workload / fitness:

SJF Cassowary is in light work with his breeder/owner and ridden one to two times per week. Appropriate viewers are welcome to test ride him.

Handling:

On the ground, SJF Cassowary is easy to catch, well mannered, good for the vet and reliable for the farrier. He loads easily onto a float, stands quietly while travelling and unloads calmly. He is currently barefoot.

Feeding and management:

SJF Cassowary is currently on hard feed and forage and is described as an easy doer. He can be kept in a herd or paddocked on his own.

Medical history:

Current and past x-rays are available. SJF Cassowary is vaccinated for Tetanus and Strangles. Vet checks are welcome at the buyer’s expense.

Rider Suitability:

SJF Cassowary is best suited to a capable, confident rider or supported amateur seeking a well-bred young horse to produce for showjumping or eventing. He is at an early stage of his education and would benefit from further professional training and a consistent program.
