Looking for your next best friend, whether it’s for on the trails or at your local jumping comp? Meet Hercules (we call him Hercy), an absolute golden retriever of a gelding who brings bravery, athletic talent, kindness, and serious presence to every arena he enters.
Ive had Hercy for 3 years now, he was my first horse ever, and he has been incredibly patient with me as I stumbled along this massive learning curve. My favourite thing about him is how hard he tries to understand and to please his rider. He thrives on building a connection, and genuinely loves to be ridden almost every single day of the week.
No buck, no bite, no rear.
Easy to catch, shoe, and walks straight on to the float no issue- especially if he has a friend. He has been the perfect first horse.
Performance & Scope:
Hercules is trained up to 1.10m at home and has successfully competed out at 1m, recently taking home a fantastic 2nd place. He is an incredibly scopey jumper at SSJC. He is very forwards, a point and shoot for someone who doesn’t mind speed. With the right training and rider he’ll go far. Honestly if I was more confident or capable I would have tried to go higher, but I sadly just haven’t had the time to develop the skill to go further.
Campaigned & Brave:
This boy has been everywhere and seen it all. He is has been desensitized and a professional in new environments. His resume includes:
Hara Training & Competition Days
Cross Country training days
Show jumping at major venues including SIEC, SSJC, and NRC
The Ultimate Trail Companion:
Away from the arena, Hercules is a dream on the trails. He is exceptionally bold, loves to take the lead, and is always brave in the bush. While XC-course big puddles aren't his favorite (he will try everything to get around them) he absolutely loves the water and will happily take you swimming on his back!
Soundness & History:
With only 4 starts on the track and having been retired for nearly 6 years, his legs are clean and sound. He has been given the time and training
to mature and transition into a gorgeous all rounder.
Character & Quirks:
Hercules is a horse with a big personality to match his size, and transparency is a priority to ensure he finds the perfect match. For context: I’m 156cm and weigh 60 kilos and can manage him, but he’s definitely built me some good arm and back muscles as he does love a speedy canter and can take the long stride to a jump. He won’t suit a home where he’s only ridden once or twice a week.
On the Ground: He can be a bit pushy on the ground simply because he genuinely doesn’t realize how big he is! He responds well to a handler who can set clear, polite boundaries. He’s not at all dangerous, but he does love to scratch his giant head on you.
Affection Style: Like I mentioned, Hercy has a notoriously itchy face and loves nothing more than using his human as a personal scratching post to rub on!
The Ideal Rider:
Hercules is a bold, brave, and very forward-thinking horse. He is highly enthusiastic about his job and thrives when he is in a consistent, full-time schedule—he is not a horse to be ridden just once or twice a week. This is part of why I’ve made the decision to list him for sale, I’m not able to give him the time he needs and neither of us is happy about it.
Because of his power and eagerness, he requires a competent, kind and confident rider who can channel his energy and contain his enthusiasm. If you give him the work, he will give you his absolute all, he will try his heart out for you. .
I truly thought I’d have him for the rest of his life, and I’m devastated about this sale. I just cannot ride 5-6 times a week anymore and he’s getting bored and frustrated.
If you want a brave, willing, kind, athletic partner who loves to try new things, thrives in work, and will carry you over a course with speed and style—Hercules is your best friend.
