Introduction: ‘Test The Stars’, affectionately known as Tosca, is a 12-year-old, 15.3hh Thoroughbred gelding with a proven competition record and genuine all round ability. Tosca has successfully competed in showjumping, eventing and dressage, as well as enjoying cow work and stock work. He is a happy face around the property and a much-loved member of the team who has provided his riders with wonderful experiences across multiple disciplines.
Breeding & Registration: Tosca is a Thoroughbred by Testa Rossa out of Bella Vedera. He holds an EA registration and Showjumping card and is eligible for Equimillions competition.
Education, Skills & Experience: Tosca is a well-educated and experienced allrounder. He has competed up to 1.05m showjumping, EvA85 eventing and Elementary dressage. In addition to his competition career, he has been exposed to cow work, barrel racing and stock work. He is safe and quiet to ride near cattle and livestock and is not concerned by dogs, busy roads or general farm life, including tractors and motorbikes.
Tosca can be ridden bareback and lunged, and adapts well to different environments. Tosca has competed at notable events including North West Interschools, Waratah World Cup Showjumping, Tamworth World Cup, Shepparton World Cup and Equimillions, demonstrating his versatility and exposure to large atmospheres.
Temperament & Rideability: Tosca is sweet and soft to ride and is light in the bridle with the ability to willingly collect. He is generally non-reactive and unflappable under saddle and adapts to the competence and confidence of his rider. He puts in as much effort as is required and is capable of stepping up when ridden by a more experienced rider.
He can, however, be lazy on the flat and often benefits from spurs and/or a whip to encourage him forward. When showjumping, he can become forward and strong. When coming back into work after a spell, Tosca may be slightly tense and tail swishy on the first ride, but he quickly settles and returns to his usual reliable self. He may occasionally call out to other horses but continues to focus on his job.
Rider Suitability: Tosca is best suited to an intermediate rider at a minimum, defined as someone who has been riding and competing regularly for at least three years and has independent hands and a balanced seat. He would particularly suit a rider aged 18 or older, who is under regular professional instruction. Due to his forward nature when jumping, he requires a rider who has soft hands and does not have a ’hot’ seat. He is a very kind and genuine horse but not for beginners.
Behaviour In & Out of Work: Tosca does not require consistent daily riding to remain safe and reliable. He can be brought back into work without issue and settles quickly. He is currently in light work, being ridden once or twice a week.
Handling & Ground Manners: Tosca is easy to catch and well mannered on the ground. He leads calmly, ties up without fuss and self-loads onto the float. He stands quietly while travelling and unloads calmly. He is easy to clip and is reliable for the farrier and veterinarian.
Feeding & Management: Tosca is currently hard fed twice daily and receives a biscuit of lucerne in the afternoon. He has no past or present medical issues, injuries or supplement requirements. He can be stabled full time or stabled for part of the day and paddocked for the remainder. He must be paddocked with a companion within sight.
Veterinary & Care: Tosca is up to date with dental, vaccinations and shoeing. Vet checks are welcome at the buyer’s expense.
Reason for Sale: Tosca is offered for sale as his rider is no longer riding or competing and does not have the time to continue his career.
Ideal Home: Tosca is looking for a home where he will be loved and cared for as he has been over the years. He will thrive with someone who is understanding but firm and confident, ensuring he does not take advantage of softer handling. He remains a talented and honest allrounder with plenty to offer the right rider.
