Valley View Shogun, known as Russell, is a super quality and very cute 13hh Welsh B gelding with genuine results across pony club and the interschool circuit. He is a versatile, well-produced pony with the education and experience to enjoy dressage/showing, showjumping, eventing, pony club and interschool competition.

Russell would be a smart choice for a rider who wants a fun, competitive and established pony to go out and enjoy. Russell is currently being ridden and competed by a friend's 8 year old who is having an absolute ball on him!

Education, skills and experience

Russell has extensive education and experience, including jumping and cross-country, working equitation-style obstacles, trail riding, beach rides and swimming. He is confident on busy roads, unphased by farm life, dogs and the general nonsense and commotion that comes with children.

General demeanour under saddle

Under saddle, Russell is willing and responsive. He is also tolerant of rider mistakes. He does not have any vices or quirks.

Current workload / fitness

Russell is currently in work and is ridden three or more times per week. He is safe to hop on after a spell and does not need daily riding to remain reliable.

Handling

On the ground, Russell is easy and straightforward to handle. He self-loads and travels well, stands quietly, is easy to clip and washes, and is good for the vet and farrier. He is well mannered, with occasional pony attitude. He is shod in front only.

Feeding and management

Russell is on hard feed with salt and hay. He is currently in a paddock and is best with a companion within sight.

Medical history

No known current or past medical issues. His vaccinations are up to date and his last dental was March 2026. Recent radiographs, taken within the past three months, are available, along with past vet checks. Further vetting is welcome at the buyer’s expense.

Rider Suitability

Russell is best suited to a keen child rider who enjoys a willing, responsive and competitive pony - with the scope to succeed at all pony club and interschool disciplines.

Reason for sale

He is very much loved, but this is a genuine case of “perfect pony, wrong timing”. He was purchased six months too soon and is proving too big and too willing for a very very nervous child.

Russell is currently being ridden, competed and very much enjoyed by a friend's 8 year old. His owners are now seeking a similarly suitable, competitive home where Russell can be adored and appreciated.
