The 18-year-old from Dannevirke won the Young Rider of the Year aboard Kiwi Ludo (owned by Annette Scott and Massie) and was fourth in the Junior Rider of the Year aboard Double J Cloud Nine, after pulling a rail in the jump-off....

The skeleton of racehorse Phar Lap has shrugged off its poor posture and is again standing proud in New Zealand's national museum, Te Papa. After months of work restructuring the bones, the mighty race horse skeleton will be on display again from Saturday in Wellington. HBO has opted to end production on its racing drama 'Luck' after a single season, due to three equine deaths on the set, which must be one of the strangest and saddest endings ever for a TV show. Producers HBO announced on Wednesday the show, which is set at Santa Anita and stars Dustin Hoffman, would be cancelled immediately after a horse was put down following an accident on Tuesday. ...

Team Fredericks has announced, "It is with great sadness that we have made the difficult decision to retire Headley Britannia, the worlds’ best known event mare, from top level competitions and so she will not be given the chance to compete at the London Olympics later this year. A big rattle at the last fence didn't stop Katie McVean winning her third Lady Rider of the Year title at the 2012 New Zealand Horse of the Year Show in Hastings today (Thursday). The 25-year-old Olympian had two horses through to the seven-strong jump-off. It was a classy 43 combinations that rode the first round but very few managed to go inside a tight time over the Leopoldo Palacios (Venezuela) designed course....
