Kind, talent and competitive schoolmaster
Introduction:
Checkmate D is a seasoned 16.1hh Warmblood schoolmaster with a proven competition record, highlighted by dual Six-Bar wins and consistent dressage scores. EA and Show Horse Association of Australasia registered, he is an attractive option for a rider wanting a competitive, experienced partner with a polished education.
With success in the showjumping ring, established flatwork and broad exposure across different environments, Checkmate D offers plenty to like for a capable junior, young rider or adult wanting a genuine schoolmaster for showjumping, dressage and showing.
Education, skills and experience:
Checkmate D has competed successfully to 1.15m and has trained to 1.20m. He has established flying changes and a history of strong Preliminary dressage scores.
He has also schooled cross-country, tackled working equitation-style obstacles, and is experienced trail riding and in busy show environments. As a schoolmaster, Checkmate D brings a depth of education across both flatwork and jumping, making him a useful and appealing horse for a rider wanting experience, rideability and correct training.
General demeanour under saddle:
Under saddle, Checkmate D is described as calm, balanced and soft in the bridle, with easy collection and is willing but more 'whoa than go' rather than 'forward'. He adapts to the rider and is tolerant of a 'miss' when jumping. When overfed and underworked he can be a little quirky - please see Owner's Response Document for more information.
Current workload / fitness:
Checkmate D is currently in light work and ridden one to two times per week. He is most reliable and competitive when he is in work 4 times a week. He benefits from a lunge after a spell.
Handling:
On the ground, Checkmate D is friendly and straightforward to manage. He is easy to catch, lead, tie, clip and wash, and is reliable for the farrier and vet. He loads easily, travels quietly and unloads calmly. He is unflappable in busy environments, including city stabling, and is not concerned by dogs, farm machinery, traffic or fireworks.
Feeding and management:
Checkmate D is currently on hard feed. He is flexible in his management and is happy in a herd, in his own paddock, or fully stabled in a busy setting. He is currently shod.
Medical history:
The seller reports no medical issues or medications, with only small cosmetic scars noted. He is up to date with vaccinations ad dental. Vet checks are welcome at the buyer’s expense.
Rider Suitability:
Checkmate D is best suited to an intermediate rider or capable junior/young rider wanting a well-educated partner for showjumping and flatwork. He offers a lovely mix of experience, education and fun — a genuine schoolmaster type with a proven record and plenty to teach.
Reason for sale:
Genuine sale due to the owner’s daughter attending an interstate boarding school.
