Introduction: Rocky Hill Amethyst, affectionately known as ‘Skye’, is the dream pony every family hopes to find. Standing at 12.2hh, this 11-year-old flaxen mare is not only incredibly safe and kind, but also strikingly beautiful — a true ‘Barbie pony’ with looks to match her golden temperament. Skye is a genuine schoolmaster who has safely taught children to ride, compete and gain confidence, and she is now very sadly for sale only because her rider has grown.

Education, skills and experience: Skye is extremely well educated and has experience across an impressive range of disciplines including pony club, dressage, showing, trail riding, campdrafting, team penning, working equitation, low-level showjumping and cross country. She has mustered, swum at the beach and in dams, performed tricks and confidently negotiates obstacles. She has competed and placed at shows and is accustomed to busy environments.

Skye works softly into the bridle, willingly collects and puts in as much effort as asked. She adapts beautifully to the confidence and ability of her rider — steady and forgiving for beginners, yet capable of stepping up when ridden by a more experienced child. She is tolerant of mixed signals and rider mistakes and remains calm and non-reactive under saddle.

General demeanor under saddle: Skye is exceptionally quiet, kind and unflappable. She is safe to hop straight on after a spell and does not require regular riding to remain reliable. She is forgiving, responsive and confidence-giving. For beginner riders, she wears simple ‘grass reins’ to prevent grazing, ensuring fuss free rides.

Current workload/ fitness: Skye is currently in light work and ridden one to two times per week. She remains safe and consistent regardless of workload.

Handling and general behaviour: Skye is an absolute pleasure to handle. She is easy to catch, calm and safe on the ground, leads quietly, ties up happily, self-loads, travels well and is easy to wash, clip, shoe and manage. She is tolerant of handler mistakes and is completely unfazed by children, dogs, farm machinery, traffic, fireworks and busy environments.

Feeding and management: Skye lives primarily on grass and is a very good doer. She only requires a small hard feed for minerals. Her management is entirely flexible — she is happy in a herd, on her own, or stabled in busy environments.

Medical history: Skye has no past or present medical issues. She may occasionally become itchy on her flanks depending on paddock conditions, but she does not suffer from Queensland Itch. She is up to date with vaccinations (Hendra, Strangles, Tetanus, Equine Influenza) and is barefoot, with front shoes only used when doing extensive trail riding. Vet checks are welcome at the buyer’s expense.

Tack and gear: No specific tack requirements.

Rider Suitability: Skye would suit a beginner plus rider. She is a very safe, forgiving schoolmaster. Skye is ideal for:

• Children under 14

• First ‘off the lead’ through to competitive child riders

• Pony Club, ag shows and Interschools
