As NZL Riders Gear Up for Olympic Qualifier in Sydney, Dressage NZ has received a substantial grant from the Pelorus Trust to assist with team travel and accommodation for this all important event. So a huge thanks to them and also to The Daisy Chain who have sponsored casual team apparel and Zilco for the team horse rugs. Another change of horses, and a violent thunderstorm in the morning was going to make for interesting competition in the final round of the tri-nations team competition at the BMW Group Financial Services International Classique. With New Zealand and Australia going into the final round level pegging on 7 points, the South Africans (sitting on 2 points) although out of the running for the overall, were eager for a win on the last day. ...

It's been a corker weekend at the international three-day Lignieres-en-Berry in France for 2014 New Zealand eventing high performance squad member Jonelle Richards. Richards led from the start aboard Short Black in the CIC* Pikeur Trophy, finishing on her very smart dressage score of 39.2, and heading home world champ Michael Jung (GER) who had to settle for third aboard Halunke FBW. ... So far, teams and individual riders from 18 nations have qualified to compete in the three Olympic equestrian disciplines of Jumping, Dressage and Eventing. The Royal Agricultural Society of Victoria announced three inductees into the prestigious Garryowen Hall of Fame at a presentation cocktail party held at Melbourne Showgrounds on Thursday, 29 September. Exceptional Service was awarded to renowned horse judge William Aeron Jones (1891 – 1971), who played an active role in instigating the Garryowen Trophy with previous Hall of Fame inductees Harry Morant and T & E Coffey. Affectionately known as WA Jones, he purchased Garryowen as part of his private business. Seeing the horse was special, Jones gifted him to Violet Murrell, thinking they would be a perfect horse and rider combination, a match that competitors strive to achieve to this day. ...

The country’s most prestigious horse showing event for female riders, the Garryowen Equestrienne Turnout, was won by 20-year-old Stephanie Barrington of Moorooduc on her horse L.A. at the 156th annual Royal Melbourne Show. Also awarded Champion Lady Rider today, Miss Barrington was named Best First Year Competitor in the Garryowen in 2009 and said competing in and winning the coveted Garryowen Equestrienne Turnout had been a lifelong dream. “When I was at school everyone would ask me what do you want to do when you grow up and I would always say I want to win the Garryowen,” Miss Barrington said. ...
