Seumas Marwood wins Exhibition Eventing qualifier in Melbourne

Last night Seumas Marwood (Vic) won the Exhibition Eventing class at the Royal Melbourne Show. This was the second and final qualifier for the Equestrian Grand Final Exhibition Eventing Final to be held at Equitana. The field of eight rode their dressage in the morning and were thus seeded for the jumping which took place at 6pm. Emily Anker and the experienced Keniski took the lead with a great test scoring 68.18%. Cass Lowe was next best on her very impressive Contango Columbus 67.27%. In equal third was Seumas Marwood (Wild Oats) and Katja Weimann (BP Gallantry) on 62.72%. ...

Sideshows seem to have struck again as the cause of an accident at an agricultural show! A harness horse at Burnie Show, Tasmania, appeared to be frightened by the sideshow rides and tried to bolt. The driver attempted to control the terrified horse, but a sharp swerve caused the carriage to tip and he was thrown out of the carriage, while a young girl was left sitting in the back seat. ...

A world expert in large animal rescue says Australian communities should have disaster management plans for livestock in place in the event of floods, fires, cyclones and other emergencies. Dr Rebecca Gimenez from Technical Large Animal Emergency Rescue in Georgia, USA, has been in Australia delivering training to SES volunteers and other emergency services, RSPCA officers, horse owners and veterinarians and has stressed the importance of planning for disasters. ...

Equestrian Community Mourns Loss of Gilmore 48

The equestrian community is mourning the loss of one of its Elite Squad Jumping horses - Gilmore 48, who was euthanized late last Friday afternoon after being injured in an attempt to jump out of his paddock. Damian Guthrie and Gilmore most recently competed in the Nations Cup event at CSIO4* Copenhagen (DEN) and at the CSIO5* Lummen (BEL). Damian is currently living in the USA and had qualified Gilmore for the 2012 London Olympics, while representing Australia in six Nations Cup events. ...

UK-based eventing riders Paul Tapner (pictured), Sam Griffiths and Clayton Fredericks will be among the starters at the Equestrian Grand Final to be held at EQUITANA on Sunday 13 November. The riders have accepted an invitation to ride borrowed horses in the Exhibition Eventing Final and will add a fresh element of international stardom to the field. Three New World Champions in Pony Driving

Three new world champions were crowned at the end of four wonderful days of competition at the FEI World Driving Championships for Combined Ponies in Lipica, Slovenia. Bram Chardon from The Netherlands won gold in the four-in-hand pony class, Dieter Baackmann from Germany was declared world champion in the pony pairs class and Kristina Klindt from Denmark is the new world champion in the pony singles class....
