Clydesdales Set Record at Good Old Days Heavy Horse Festival

A team of 20 Clydesdale horses stepped into the record books on Saturday at the Good Old Days Heavy Horse Festival held at Barellan, in the Riverina, last weekend. The team hauled a wagon loaded with 6.2 tonnes of wool, rewriting the modern record for the most number of Clydesdales to pull a wagon, breaking last year's record of 17. ... The Show Horse Council Rivenlee 2011 NSW Horse of the Year Show was held over the weekend at Hawkesbury Showgrounds in Clarendon and there were many stunning horses on show! 43-year-old Paul Athanasoff of Dungog, NSW, rode two sensational clear rounds on Wirragulla Nicklaus on Sunday to take out the Breeders’ Plate National Title ahead of 21 competitors at the 2011 Australian Jumping Championships. “He was great all show,” said Athanasoff, “I am thrilled with him and the result.” It was a triumphant return to competition for the 14-year-old stallion Wirragulla Nicklaus (by Falkrich) which had been sidelined from injury since early 2011. ... It’s now only a couple of weeks before the Bates Australian Dressage Championships commences. Riders from across the very large continent of Australia will descend on the Sydney International Equestrian Centre to battle it out for supremacy. There are representatives from each state and territory except Tasmania. Natalie Wilson from Western Australia and Susan Barton-Johnson from the Northern Territory will have traveled thousands of kilometers for these Championships. William Fox-Pitt (GBR) showed the amazing strength of his horsepower when his exciting young horses Oslo and Lionheart finished first and third at Les Etoiles des Pau (FRA), the final leg of the HSBC FEI Classics™ 2011. However, it was the unstoppable Mary King (GBR) who claimed the 150,000 USD prize, the biggest single award in Eventing, as HSBC FEI Classics™ champion for 2011.
