Day one of the Bates Australian Dressage Championships

Over the last week, over 180 horses arrived at the Sydney International Equestrian Centre for the Bates Australian Dressage Championships. Except for Tasmania, all states are represented including our close neighbour New Zealand. Some horses and riders have travelled unbelievable distances to compete at these championships....

Competition starts today at the Bates National Dressage Championships held at Sydney International Equestrian Centre Horsley Park. Around 180 competitors from across Australia as well as six New Zealand riders will take part over the four days of competition with classes ranging from Novice level to Grand Prix. New Zealand's best dressage riders are seeking an Olympic first in Australia tomorrow (Friday). Four combinations will try to qualify a team position at the Australian Dressage Championships in Sydney, and if successful it would be the first time the first time New Zealand has achieved this for an Olympic Games. The Hawkesbury Dressage Club is holding their AGM on 15 November and is issuing an urgent plea to their membership for help! The committee is burnt out and over half of the current committee have advised of their decision not to stand again for 2012. Coupled with the resignation of the Event Secretary a few weeks ago, this has left the club in a desperate situation and could result in closure of the club. ...
